Original Item: Only One Available. This is an excellent condition World War Two Führerpickel (guide pick) ice axe, made by the known Swiss firm of Gebr. Andenmattn. This style of ice axe is documented as having been used by the Gebirgsjägers, and while officially neutral, Switzerland still supplied Germany throughout the war.
This ice axe is offered in excellent condition, and measures 34 1/4" in overall length with a 11 1/2" head. There is a proof marking and serial number 1469 on one side of the head, while the other side is dated 1944, as well as maker marked:
Gebr. Andenmattn
SchweIz
Saas Almagel
This is the marking of Gebrüder Andenmattn (Andenmattn Brothers), located in Saas Almegel, Valais, Switzerland (Schweiz). They manufactured many of these ice axes during the WWII period, which were then acquired by German forces during the war. This style does not look to have ever had a wrist loop installed.
A really nice example, ready to display.
